Doctors of Chiropractic (D.C.)
The health care industry is generally unaware of the vast differences that exist among various colleges of chiropractic.
Of the 16 different colleges nationwide, only a few embrace the philosophy of educating primary care physicians. The others limit their educational focus to spinal/musculoskelatel issues only.
Students at a primary care-based college draw blood, read EKG strips, ascultate heart and lungs and even do routine pelvic exams. Their knowledge of diagnostic procedures approaches that of a conventional medical student. The difference in education only occurs on the treatment side of the equation.
Chiropractic students focus on manipulation and alternative/complementary treatment options. Conventional medical students focus on pharmaceutical, procedural and surgical interventions.
Doctors of Osteopathy (D.O.)
Of the 45,000 physicians licensed as Doctors of Osteopathy, very few utilize manipulation and a non-pharmaceutical approach as their primary treatment for patient care. AMI specifically looks to that subset of DOs who are true CAM providers.
